i thank you God for most this amazing

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
wich is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday;this is the birth
day of life and love and wings:and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

  1. Andre….. I used the first few lines of this poem to compose a song that was sung on the occasion of my Ordination in 1969. A banner with these words was placed on my door that morning . Appreciating this poem so much, I recorded it on an album of spiritual songs in 1972. It includes the first lines of E. E. Cummings poem” For this most Amazing Day”
These words will always remain close to my heart..

I feel the poem is simply a declaration of thankfulness and acceptance of a truth he discovered(the existance of a supernatural Non-dependant being ). Which is obviously proven through the senses.
